If your does not serve the information that the visitor is looking for – in time – that will be the core reason of your websites failure. The first diagnostic to be done for a website with high bounce rate is to identify if the website is serving all the information that a user would be looking for.

Solution: Site Search Feature

A visitor should find it easy to reach your business beyond the website either by phone or visit your address. A lot of websites fail to provide this basic information in a visible manner on their website. These details will help businesses to establish trust with their visitors.

small business website design checklist

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

This article is about how business owners can receive effective online quotes from website design agencies.

We have seen a lot of businesses approaching website design companies for quote requests online. A lot of times they send these requests with very minimum information about their business. Imagining that you engaged a company that offered a very low cost without any information about your business, this may lead to lot of chaos during and post development of your website.

Here is a quick checklist business owners can use while requesting for a quote from a website design agency.

  1. We are looking to design a new website
  2. No, We are looking to re-design our website
  3. Our Domain Name
  4. Our Business Is (Provide a brief about your business)
  5. Our products & or Services
  6. Our goal of having this website is (ex:lead generation {provide quotes etc}, gather data, sell from the website)
  7. We need this website to be completed in (give your timeline)
  8. We should be able to create pages Yes/No
  9. Top competitors of our business
  10. Our budget

Though the above questions is not all that you need to be discussing with the agency but this will be a good first step to get quotes from different agencies.

W3Commerce has built a similar interactive questionnaire to make business owners live easy to decide on what features they need on their website. If you are looking for a quote please feel free to send us a request for quote

How not to approach a web design agency

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

In our years of experience in the website design, development and internet marketing industry we have seen a lot of clients approach website design agencies and ask for a quote straight away. Business owners call a few companies or request for a quote online and select an agency based on the cheapest quote. This is one of the major reasons many business owners end up with bitter experiences.

How NOT to approach?

Without knowing your needs:

Do not approach an agency before you know what you want your website to do, if you are not aware of what a website can do for your business then it is wise to have a consultation with a website design company and ask them if they have worked with a similar business or your industry and about their experience. You can brief about your business, products, services and ask them for suggestions.

If you know what you need then talk to website designers and ask them their suggestions of building a website for your business. You can speak to many agencies about this and see how creative they are.

Do not ask for immediate quotes:

Web design companies receive a lot of email quote requests with out a phone number to contact, even worse are quotes without any reference websites or details about their business. At this point, the agency does not know what the customers needs are (emails asking for details are generally ignored) so they send cheap quotes.

Unrealistic Timeline:

Most people want their website to be built the moment they decide they want one. This is one of the major reason why web design projects fail. Creativity and technical development, both needs time and any compromise in giving enough time would result in poor quality outcome.

Do not decide only from a price point: While every business has their own budget to invest on things like website, they also have to understand that every type of website comes with a specific cost and they cannot go down than a certain limit. See if all the agencies you have contacted have matched your requirement and then compare the price between them.

W3Commerce believes in a consultative approach and we offer free consultation for businesses to guide them on building an approach to their web design project.
